by on Dec.31, 2011, under Society, Uncategorized

Medical specialists from the Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery have strongly discouraged the use of the electronic cigarette to stop smoking, which has not been scientifically proven to achieve their goal because that smokers can not cut the habit if you are taking the cigarette their mouths.

Electronic cigarettes are being studied to learn about its safety, ie, the components they carry.

According to the FDA (Food and Drugs Administration of USA), a laboratory analysis of samples of the electronic cigarette has been found to contain carcinogens and toxic chemicals such as diethylene glycol, an ingredient used in antifreeze.

Let’s see how they work and which contain these controversial electronic cigarettes.

The so-called electronic cigarettes are shaped devices that eject battery cigarette nicotine when inhaled and seek to emulate the smoking experience.

They do not emit smoke, but sprayed a substance that can contain nicotine or just essences such as mint, vanilla or apple, similar in appearance steaming with smoke. They cost around 50 euros and need refills cost between 6 and 8 euros,

Marketed as Green Smoke ‘Cigtronic’, ‘Cigarclean’ or ‘E-cigarette’, often advertised as a method to help you quit smoking or help for smokers to avoid lighting up a cigarette in places where prohibited.

“There is no evidence that electronic cigarettes help you quit the habit of snuff.” “Electronic cigarettes are not quitting, despite the claims of those who sell.

These products are defined themselves as non-health products, regulatory agencies do not speak up against, while not attributed specific properties of medical devices or drugs. However, according to the OCU, “it is important to regulate the use of these devices in public spaces” because they give bad example to young people.

The drug agency (FDA, for its acronym in English) recently analyzed some of the best selling brands of cigarettes and found these “toxic substances in one of them, more nicotine from that stated in others, and largely carcinogens such as nitrosamines. ”

On some pages devices are advertised as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to stop smoking, but WHO itself published a note denying it.

In fact as early as September 2008, WHO warned against the use of electronic cigarette, which might not be safe.

WHO knows there is no scientific evidence yet to confirm that the electronic cigarette is a safe and effective device to stop smoking “Electronic cigarettes are made of a metal tube with a chamber containing liquid nicotine in a rechargeable cartridge.

Smokers puff but does not give light, leading many to use it to avoid smoking bans in public spaces.

However, the user inhales nicotine “along with other toxic muchoscompuestos which we are not safe,” said Douglas Bettcher, acting director of the Free Initiative of WHO Snuff.

“The World Health Organization knows there is no scientific evidence yet to confirm that the electronic cigarette is a safe and effective device to stop smoking,” said Bettcher. “We still have not made the toxicological tests and clinical examinations on this product.”
